Public Enemies

One of the movies I have been looking forward to this year is "Public Enemies". I've been waiting for that movie for about two years now. I'm a huge Johnny Depp-fan, so that in itself made sure I had high expectations. In addition to this, I love this kind of movies, and with Michael Mann as director, I expected a masterpiece.

I saw the movie shortly after the premiere, and ended up pretty confused. I have to admit, I was a little disappointed. The movie is good, and you should definitly see it if you haven't already, but I do understand why so many critics gave it a four on the dice.

I honestly don't know what it is, but something was missing. I just can't seem to put my finger on it. The break-outs went a little to smooth in a way, and the humorous points didn't make me laugh as much as I wanted to. Johnny Depp played well, but not great. And you were kind of left with the feeling that you hadn't gotten to know the characters as well as you wanted to. I guess there were simply too little of their human side.

All in all it is a good movie, and I will probably see it again some day. But when you want a masterpiece, and you know that the people involved are very well capable of making one, then you're just not satisfied with a good movie. We want more.
